Bibi Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-13
Bibi ("we", "us") is a language-practice video conversation app for adults (18+). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
What we collect
- Profile data you enter: name, birth date, gender, country and city, bio, interests, English level, native language, app language.
- Photos you upload: profile photo and, optionally, a student card photo for verification. Student card photos are stored separately from profile photos, are not publicly accessible, can be opened only by our verification team through a short-lived private link, and are deleted from our servers as soon as the verification is approved or rejected.
- Conversation records: who you talked with, when, for how long, the topic of the day, the rating, tags and optional written feedback you gave, and whether you "liked" your partner. Written feedback is visible only to our moderation team and is never shown to the person you rated. We do not record, store or listen to the audio or video of your calls; media is transmitted peer-to-peer between devices.
- Private messages: once two people have liked each other after a call (a "connection"), they can send each other text messages. These messages are stored on our servers so that both of you can read them later. They are shown only to the sender and the recipient; our moderation team can see a message only if it is reported, in which case the reported message is attached to the report. Messages pass through the same text filter as in-call chat. You cannot message anyone you are not connected with, and blocked users cannot message you.
- Safety data: blocks and reports you submit, and reports submitted about you. If you report someone during a video call, the app attaches a single still image taken from their video at that moment to your report, so our moderators can act on what actually happened. That image is stored privately, is visible only to the moderation team through a short-lived private link, and is deleted together with the report (see Retention). We do not capture images at any other time.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard web-server logs (including IP address) for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention. The app itself does not store your IP address.
- Usage analytics collected inside the app: which screens and features you use (for example starting a search, opening the topic card, muting, sending a chat message, rating), how long you wait for a match, call duration and technical call quality (connection time, round-trip time, packet loss, jitter, bitrate), app errors, and basic device information (platform, OS version, device model, app version, app language, time zone, network type such as Wi-Fi or mobile). Each installation gets a random identifier that is not linked to advertising IDs. We never collect the text of your chat or private messages, your photos, or the audio/video of calls in analytics — only counts such as "a message was sent".
We do not collect precise location, contacts, or advertising identifiers. Analytics data is processed on our own servers; we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Calls connect directly between the two devices (peer-to-peer). To establish that connection your device contacts STUN/TURN servers, which see your device's IP address but never your profile data or the content of the call. We run our own TURN server; we also use Google's public STUN servers (stun.l.google.com) as a fallback, and they receive your IP address when they are used. Because calls are peer-to-peer, your IP address may also be visible to the person you are talking to.
- **Push notification token** (only if you allow notifications): a device token issued by Apple/Google so we can notify you about new messages, new connections, scheduled calls and class reminders. It is deleted when you sign out or delete your account. You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
Why we use it
- To match you with another student according to your preferences and the app's matching rules.
- To run the daily conversation class, the points system and leaderboards.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, blocking abusive users and suspending accounts.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it: fixing crashes and connection problems, measuring wait times and call quality, and seeing which features are helpful (analytics).
- To comply with legal obligations.
Camera and microphone
The camera and microphone are used only during a conversation you start and, if you choose, to take your profile or student-card photo. A visible indicator is shown whenever your camera or microphone is active. You can turn either off during a call at any time.
Sharing
Your public profile (name, age, country, bio, interests, level, rating, points, photo) is shown to the person you are matched with, to people you have talked to before, and in leaderboards. People you have blocked (or who have blocked you) cannot see your profile or message you. Private messages are visible only to the two people in the conversation (and to our moderation team if a message is reported). We do not sell personal data. We share data only with hosting providers that process it on our behalf under contract, or when required by law.
Retention
Profile data is kept while your account exists. Reports (including any attached report image), private messages and usage analytics events are kept for up to 12 months and are then deleted automatically by a daily clean-up job. Web-server logs are kept for up to 30 days by our hosting provider. When you delete your account, the analytics events linked to your account — including those recorded on the same installation before you signed up — are deleted, and only anonymous aggregate statistics remain.
Your rights
- Access and correct your profile in the app (Profile > Edit).
- Delete your account and data in the app (Profile > Delete account) or via hello@bibitalk.com. Deletion immediately removes your profile, your matching preferences, your app language, your blocks, your private messages (both the ones you sent and the ones you received — the other person's copy of the conversation is removed too) and your analytics events, and erases your profile photo and student card image files from our servers. Conversation records are anonymised: the fact that a call took place, its duration and topic remain so that the other participant keeps their own history.
- Withdraw consent for camera and microphone in your device settings.
- Contact us at hello@bibitalk.com for any privacy request. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK you may also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
Children
Bibi is for adults only. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account; if we learn that a minor has registered we delete the account.
Changes
We will notify you in the app when this policy changes materially.
